Part number 914.201.004.71 is the 100 liter steel fuel tank and installation kit. This large fuel tank was necessary for the serious endurance racer who wanted more fuel capacity than the stock 62 liters fuel tank offered.

 To install the large fuel tank one would have to remove the bulkhead between the stock fuel tank location and the front trunk, then weld reinforcement plates on the insides of the front strut mounts. A square steel tube was installed between the top of the front strut mounts to restore the structural integrity and maintain camber adjustment lost by
removing the bulkhead.

A large fuel filler neck was used with the fuel tank so it could be more rapidly fill and also allowed for an access hole to be cut into the front hood thus eliminating the need to remove the hood when re-fueling.
